22 June – 27 June 2015
This week was good and bad. Good because my sister-in-law came and bad because my mother-in-law came along(pun intended) with her and I could only manage 4 days of running. After first 4 days of the week, I took a break from running. It still feels something is missing in my mood to run. I am clearly overtraining.
I did a reasonably fast 14k in the evening. Did I tell you that I took a week’s leave for the visit of my in-laws? Well, it started few days before they arrived. I just wanted to relax a bit beforehand! After the run, I went to the pool with my kid. He had fun in the kid’s pool and I free dived in the deep end and did few laps. Well, did I tell you that I am a scuba diver also?
At night, I had a couple of beers with no worries of getting up early. Remember, it’s my short vacation.
A slow 10k in the evening again before I hit the pool. I am quite a neat swimmer, I think. And pretty strong in water too. Anyways, enough of bragging!
It rained and rained in the morning and afternoon. So, I cancelled my run and went to pool with my kid. I did few extra laps than what I generally do today. It felt nice but I had this worry of doing the weekly long run tomorrow morning. Should I have done so much in the pool?
By the way, it so much fun to swim with rain falling. My kid went bazooka when this happened. He simply loved it.
I woke up at 2am. I slept poorly at night. Plus I was tired. I thought ‘what the heck, let’s do it. EYE OF THE TIGER.’ I had a glass of water mixed with Glutamine and a slice of toast with peanut butter. After the freshening up, I picked my new hydration pack by A1 and put the hydration bladder, which I had kept in the fridge last night.
I sliced a banana in two and pocketed an energy bar. After doing some warm up, I was out of the door by 3am. The sky was still dark and I could see the stars. Stars! That’s bad news because then it’s going to be a hot morning. And it was already humid.
My running felt off since the beginning. I was not feeling the fun I was having previously. The loops of 6.6k which I was doing were dreadful. In addition, today I was chased by the dogs. They were offensive. So, I had to walk for quite a bit of distance. And they just kept following me. What the heck!
I didn’t have the heart in the run today. It maybe because I ran a little during the week or I was not well. So, I called off the ‘so called run’ after 20k and returned home. I stretched a bit and had my protein shake and slept off for a couple of hours.
I decided to run a 10k in the the evening to complete 30k but managed to hobble only 7k. These 7 were really painful with my knee and hip joint crying loudly. I called it off. We went for a party in a pub later at night with my wife and sister-in-law. I was sore but the beer helped me to have a ball.
FRIDAY – SATURDAY
We were supposed to leave for Kalimpong at 9am but were so hung over from last night’s party that we started at 1pm for Darjeeling. The road to Kalimpong was closed due to land slide.
We took a taxi and moved to the cooler climate of Darjeeling. And we encountered a lot of traffic jams. It sometimes is really scary to be sitting in the vehicles which drive just on the edge of the cliff. Here are some photos of the trip.
So, this is how I spent my last week. It was great with some poor running. I have to compensate for previous few bad weeks. I have to focus more on having a healthy nutrition(though it’s not too bad). I think I can do well if I meet a nutrition specialist.
Total km run this week = 51k.
By the way, Bhatti lakes Ultra seems to have found a sponsor. It’s now called Salomon Bhatti Lakes Ultra.
Till then stay fit and keep running.
Have you ever met a nutrition specialist? Are they helpful?
Any place you visited recently from family?
