Future Running Plans – UTMB 2018

I have always been very ambitious though didn’t achieve most of the things I planned for. But, I had lots of fun, excitement and adventure in whatever I set out to do. So, my future plan is to run UTMB CCC in 2018. It is the Tour-de-France of ultra running.

FUTURE RUNNING PLANS – UTMB 2018

UTMB is a trail running event in Chamonix where almost 8000 runners from different countries of the world come together to run around Mont-Blanc. One can easily say that this race is the mecca of trail runners and ultra runners. Now, UTMB is broken down into following categories-

  • UTMB – Ultra Trail Mont Blanc – 171 km
  • CCC – Courmayeur-Champex-Chamonix – 101 km
  • TDS – Sur les Traces des Ducs de Savoie – 119 km
  • OCC – Orsières-Champex-Chamonix – 56 km
  • PTL – Petite Trotte á Léon – 290km

I have homed on to the CCC which requires the runner to earn a total 8 points, from 2 races at max, to register for it. The CCC will be organised from 27 August – 02 September 2018 and pre – registrations will open between 14 December 2017 – 03 January 2018. So, I need to earn my 8 points before that. Here is my plan on how to do it.

In India, the races which gives points for UTMB are –

I have homed on to few races which will help me to do so, in not so efficient manner. The two races which I need to run to earn the 8 points are-

  • Bhatti Lakes Ultra 2017 – 100 km on 06-08 October 2017.
  • Nilgiris Ultra 2017 – 100 km on 02 December 2017.

I know it looks like a hell of a plan! Earlier the idea was to run Run of Kutch in February 2017 but I couldn’t do it. LIFE HAPPENED! It is a tough call to do two 100 km in a gap of 2 months but it is adventure, right? This is my idea to keep me excited and on my toes.

Earning the points is only the starting block! I need to get selected in case a draw takes place. Then I have to take care of the expenses too – race fee, travel, stay, food and shopping(for the wife!). It all seems a bit daunting, considering the fact that it will be my first overseas travel. It’s gonna be epic! But I know of somebody who always says to PLAY BY THE EAR. I am just too excited for it. It is said that if one decides to do something, then the whole universe conspires to to help achieve it.

I am quite charged up thinking about the future. The race is going to be tough and I need to prepare accordingly. Lots of running this year. Wish me luck.

Till then stay fit and keep running.
